19 of our students headed all the way up to Preston last month to attend the National Student Television Conference, hosted by LA1:TV and PSTV. Having left Southampton early on the Friday morning they arrived in Preston seven hours later! Now that is dedication to student television. On the Saturday of the conference the group attended conference sessions that were led by industry profesionals ranging from marketing workshops to a session on how to design motion graphics.
Emily Spurling, SUSUtv’s SUSU Executive had this to say about the conference: “Our weekend at NaSTAs was the highlight of an amazing year for SUSUtv. Seeing some great speakers from the industry was really useful, and we also got to see more of the best student television has to offer. The best moment has to be celebrating our well-deserved Light Entertainment win though!”
That’s right, not only did the guys learn loads about the television industry and what it has in store, the conference also plays host to the swanky NaSTA Awards Ceremony, within which SUSUtv won the award for Best Light Entertainment for their production SUSUtv does Top Gear, check it out below:
Producer Chris Evans said of his win: “I couldn’t be prouder of the exceptional standard of SUSUtv productions submitted for this year’s NaSTA awards. Winning the Best Light Entertainment category with SUSUtv does Top Gear was a testament to the hard work, enthusiasm and dedication of all the presenters and crew. With four separate film crews operating independently on the shoot I think it goes to show how much SUSUtv can accomplish when we all work together. For me the production sums up the SUSUtv experience, ambitious, a little bit crazy and a whole lot of fun!”
Presenter Tom Smith said: “Winning the award for Best Light Entertainment was the culmination of months of planning, preparation and hard work. The team behind SUSUtv Does Top Gear worked incredibly hard and I think this shows in the exceptional finish of the video. The whole production was a showcase of SUSUtv at its very best; a group of friends working together to make something amazing”
SUSUtv also came third in three other categories so a big well done goes out to the team for all the hard work and effort put into their NaSTA nominations.
SUSUtv Station Manager Joanna Sheldon said this about the conference, which I feel truly sums up the team’s weekend at NaSTA: “It was such a feel good weekend, I’m so proud of what everyone has achieved and winning a NaSTA has been the cherry on top of an amazing year.”
